Tom Vander Ark's "Inclusive and Iterative Plan Drives Rhode Island Forward" post is a great summary of the process we've followed thus far, and some of the challenges that await. If you're still trying to figure out what we're up to, give it a read.
I have had the honor to co-facilitate the 26 member Ambassador Design Team through the creation of the third of five iterations of the new state strategic plan for education. With the release of Prototype 3 of the RI Strategic Plan for PK-12 Education, readers are getting their first sense of the full scope of the plan as this draft includes a draft of all elements of the final plan. It was a great thrill to have the opportunity to keynote today's RI ASCD PreService conference. A copy of my slideshow is here. I've also added links to some of the people and documents I referred to below.

It has been a real honor to be a part of the team of people honored with the task of descending on some unsuspecting classroom teacher, with television camera and gifts in tow, to honor them with the WJAR Golden Apple Award. In my twenty-three years as a teacher, I have unfortunately only visited a handful of classrooms outside of my school. While the Golden Apple visits are brief, they have given me the chance to witness some of the amazing work going on in classrooms all across the state. Click on the image link to see some the coverage of some of RI's amazing teachers. Today's press release from the RI Dept. of Ed. includes a little sentence in the last paragraph that will focus my work as teacher of the year over the next eight months. "Additionally, the Board of Education is recruiting 12 to 15 community members who will serve as the Ambassador Design Team, developing and writing the plan over the next seven months. David Moscarelli, the 2015 Rhode Island Teacher of the Year, will facilitate the work of the design team."
While I am slowly getting more comfortable with my new role this year, the mention of my name as a facilitator of this ambitious project gives me a sense of just how much respect the education community has for the state teacher of the year position. It was a real thrill to be able to speak to an audience of over 700 educators as the local member of this amazing panel of thought-provoking educators from around the country.
